Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions are planning on releasing an 11 track album, Through the Devil Softly, on September 15th. This is wonderful news if you are/were a Mazzy Star fan. Who can forget the amazing hit, Fade Into You? Sandoval's voice was so powerful and dark in that song. Apparently, this album is supposed to go back to the laid-back, soothing, psychedelic sound that Sandoval is known. A North American tour is being planned for this Fall and UK/Europe dates to follow. As of now, I only have a single off of the album to share. This song has a slow acoustical sound, with an electric wave intertwining between a piano and Sandoval's voice. I hope that you enjoy!
I happened upon this band a week or so ago and I can't seem to get them out of my head. Fanfarlo has an album coming out, but you can get it, plus 4 bonus songs, for the bargain basement price of $1.00. You can only get it for this price until July 4, so get on it. The band states, "Hello. Because we want everyone to hear our album, and in the spirit of “why not”, we are now letting you download it, along with 4 exclusive bonus tracks, for a mere one dollar until July 4th (or, if you like, Independence Day.) After that, the madness will end and you will be able to get the CD, the vinyl and a beautiful new special edition at normal prices." Their sound has a dash of Arcade Fire, a sprinkle of Beirut, and a hint of Pale Young Gentlemen. If you like bass, trumpet, keyboards, violin, mandolin, drums, electric guitar, and an accordion - then this is the band for you. Sometimes, on your first listen of an album, you skip over songs that you just don't feel. I actually found myself listening to Reservoir in its entirety! The three songs that stood out the most to me were I'm a Pilot, Fire Escape, and Luna.

If you have been a fan of this site, you know that the site was completely taken down and brought back up with one post about PJ Harvey. I am still receiving emails and cds in my inbox/mailbox and I haven't been too thrilled about posting anything that I have heard. That was until I received an email with a demo of Blind Pilot's 3 Rounds and a Sound. I have been listening to this band a lot in the past month and couldn't resist a posting to let you all know just how great this band is. This is an amazing debut album that is filled with songs that you will instantly love. In fact, NPR named this album as one of their top 11 cds of 2008. I Buried a Bone is my favorite song on this cd. This song is filled with beautiful harmonies, sweet acoustics, and a marichi horn feel. The folk-pop feel oozes through each song so effortlessly. The title track is one that will be on constant rotation on your ipod. Right now you can find that the band is pretty busy touring with The Decemberist and headlinging their own tour. They will also be a making an appearance at a little known music festival called Lollapalloza. If you have a chance, you should really check them out.
